The first cleanup after moving in

Before you let your dogs explore the backyard of your new home, you need to check the previous owners did not leave health hazards behind.

Moving into a new house in the Las Vegas valley is stressful enough without thinking about what is hiding in the backyard. While the inside of the home might have been professionally cleaned, the exterior landscaping is frequently neglected during a move. If the previous owners had dogs, their waste was likely left behind in the chaos of packing.

Before you unlatch the side gate and let your own dogs explore their new territory, you need to verify the yard is actually safe for them to use. Booking a professional one-time cleanup is a great way to reset the property.

The hidden hazards of an unknown yard

When you look at a new backyard, especially one with mature grass in older neighborhoods like Paradise or Sunrise Manor, it is easy to miss the accumulation. Grass over six inches tall or heavy leaf cover easily hides weeks of neglected waste. Even in newer master-planned communities in Summerlin with decorative rock and artificial turf, dried waste blends into the landscaping.

This hidden accumulation is more than just a nuisance, it is a health risk. Dog waste carries bacteria like E. coli and salmonella. More importantly, it harbors parasites like roundworm, hookworm and giardia. The intense Las Vegas heat dries the waste out, but it does not clean the soil or kill these parasites. If your dogs sniff or step in the contaminated dirt left by the previous owner’s pets, they can easily pick up a parasite.

What a deep sweep accomplishes

When we perform a move-in cleanup, our goal is to completely reset the yard to a baseline. Our technicians do not just glance around, they walk the agreed yard areas in a strict grid pattern. This methodical approach means we find the waste that has settled into the gravel beds or been obscured by the lawn.

Everything we find is bagged securely, tied off, and placed in your outdoor trash bin (or hauled away if you request that add-on). Crucially, to prevent cross-contamination, our technicians spray their boots and tools with a kennel-grade disinfectant before they even open your gate.

Restoring the hardscapes

If your new home features artificial turf or a concrete dog run, simply picking up the solid waste might not be enough. The previous owner’s dog waste has likely baked organic residue directly into the synthetic blades or the concrete pad during the summer heat.

If you have a working outdoor hose spigot, we can rinse the turf to wash away that residue, and then brush the synthetic grass against the grain so the blades stand up properly. If the yard still smells, we can apply an enzyme and probiotic deodorizer spray. This yard-safe formula breaks down the organic residue that causes the odor, making the patio usable for your first barbecue.

Transitioning to a route

Once the yard is cleared of the previous owner’s mess, it is an ideal time to establish your own maintenance routine. If you choose to sign up for a weekly or twice weekly recurring plan after the initial deep clean, that heavy lifting is already done.

We quote the one-time cleanup based on the number of dogs (if known), the yard size, and the estimated accumulation. We can usually schedule these move-in sweeps within the same week you request the quote, verifying the yard is ready as soon as you unpack the dog beds.
