Most Las Vegas households with one or two dogs can maintain a clean backyard with a standard weekly waste removal schedule. But when you add a third or fourth dog to the mix, the math changes drastically. In a multi-dog home, waste accumulation does not just increase, it compounds to a level that requires a much tighter maintenance routine.
The reality of the volume
An average-sized dog produces roughly 270 pounds of waste a year, which breaks down to about three-quarters of a pound every single day. If you have three dogs, your yard is collecting over two pounds of highly acidic, bacteria-laden waste daily. By the end of a single week, you have fifteen pounds of waste sitting on the landscaping.
If your dogs share a small backyard in a master-planned community in Enterprise or Summerlin, that volume of waste will overwhelm the space. The dogs will inevitably begin stepping in old waste, tracking bacteria and mess directly onto your patio furniture and into your house.
The heat and odor problem
The sheer volume of waste is a problem, but the Las Vegas heat turns it into a crisis. From June through September, temperatures routinely cross 100 degrees. When fifteen pounds of waste sits on decorative rock or artificial turf in that heat, the moisture evaporates rapidly, baking the organic residue directly into the hardscaping.
Artificial turf traps this heat and residue, creating an overpowering odor that can make the yard completely unusable for your family. Once the residue is baked into the porous backing of the turf, a simple sweep is no longer enough. The yard will require a heavy hose rinse and the application of an enzyme and probiotic deodorizer spray to break down the odor-causing matter.
Why twice weekly is essential
For homes with three or more dogs, we almost always recommend a twice weekly service schedule. Waiting seven days between cleanups simply allows too much waste to accumulate and bake into the yard.
A twice weekly plan checks the waste is removed before it can cause severe odor issues or leach parasites like roundworm and hookworm into the soil. Because our residential pricing is quoted based on frequency and dog count (each extra dog adds three dollars to the base per-visit rate), a twice weekly plan is a cost-effective way to maintain a clean environment without doing the heavy lifting yourself.
Since we operate on a month-to-month basis with no long-term contracts, many multi-dog homes bump their service up to twice weekly during the brutal summer heat, and drop back to a weekly schedule during the cooler winter months when the odor risk is lower.
Sanitation on the route
When our technicians service a heavy-use yard, sanitation is our priority. We walk a tight grid, bag the waste securely for your outdoor trash bin, and check the gate is latched and photographed. Crucially, we spray our boots and tools with a kennel-grade disinfectant between every yard. We know that heavy accumulation brings a higher risk of bacteria, and our protocols mean we never spread those issues across the valley.
